A Battle Of The A’s

Lots of logistical issues jeopardized whether we would be able to even hold this tournament, but thanks to the help of lots of team members, particularly Ryan Drake and Nora Massuda for making sure we got the equipment, we were able to host tourney 11 for 31 players.

Lost a couple of players very early, but then it moved slowly still holding at 27 at the lunch break.  Things moved a little more quickly after that.  A couple of hands of note:

Judy Lepire opens with KK and Gerry Shebar and Alex Lum call.  Flop is KJQ.  Judy bets 400, Gerry calls, Alex shoves with AQ.  Judy calls, Gerry folds.  The turn is a 10 giving Alex Broadway beating Judy’s set of Kings.  River is an A, allowing Judy to hit Broadway and chop with Alex to stay in the tourney.  Both ended up at the final table.

Final table was arrived at with a double knockout by Margy Chapin.  Margy shoves with 44, Ferdy shoves with AK and Ryan Drake shoves KQ.  The flop comes J 4 7 to give Margy a set and no help for Ferdy or Ryan on the turn and river.  Margy has both guys covered so we are now at the final table.

Final table:  Adrian Aguilar, Alex Lum, Andy Park, Blue Sirius, Judy Lepire, Margy Chapin, Pepito Pea, Ryan Park, and Sanjay Vara.

Final table tourney 11

Blue is first out when she shoved with Ax and ran into JJ.  Next action Judy avoided being “bubble girl” when Sanjay 3 bet with QQ and Judy shoved with AK.  Flop brings 3 rags and the bubble is in sight, but amazingly the turn and river are both A’s giving Judy the double up.

Next to go on the bubble was Margy when she shoved preflop with $5400 from mid-position.  Sanjay calls and Alex goes all in with $16K.  Sanjay tanks but eventually folds.  Margy shows 88, but gets no help against Alex’s AA.

Ryan Park is out in 7th when his pocket 6’s were no match for Pepito’s K10 on a flop of AA10. Out in 6th was Sanjay when his QJ suited ran into Adrian’s AK.  And then to rub salt into the wound, Adrian turned another A.

Judy shoved with K10 and was called by Pepito’s QQ.  No help for Judy busted her out in 5th place.  She was followed by Pepito who shoved pre flop with K7 vs Alex’s 88.

The final three, our Triple A’s:  Adrian, Alex, Andy, played for almost 2 hours just exchanging chips.

Battle of the A's Tourney 11

Alex was left very short when he shoved pre flop with K10 and Adrian called with J4, flopping a J 10 9, and turning a 4 for two pair.  Shortly after that Alex shoved 17K with 10 10, getting calls from Adrian with A 3 and Andy with AK, but Alex’s 10’s held up and he tripled up.  Unfortunately, a few hands later Alex was out in 3rd and we were heads up with Andy and Adrian.

heads up tourney 11

They played for another 30 minutes exchanging chips and then finally Andy shoved pre flop with A 6 and Adrian called with KJ suited.  Board runs out 5 4 9 10 9 and Andy takes it down.
