Twenty three unsuperstitious players showed up for the 13th tournament of Piranha’s 13th season, including Andy Press, a veteran Piranha alumnus who has returned to the Bay Area from exile in Southern California.
Notable hands from the early going included Joe’s AA all in against Dennis’ KK and Gordo’s QQ, with Mark wisely folding his Jacks. The Aces held up and Joe scored a double elimination.
Jeanne did well to preserve part of her stack when her nut flush was crushed by Ryan’s straight flush on an unpaired board.
As we neared the final table, Mark flopped a set of 9s and put Joe all in with his pocket Aces. An Ace on the turn crippled Mark and drew a lot of oohs and ahhs from the peanut gallery.
Soon we had our final table.
After valiant efforts, short stacks Adrian and Sandi went out 9th and 8th respectively, while Nora skillfully built her short stack into one of the big stacks. When Dom busted out on the bubble, we were all in the points. Nora’s KJ flopped two pair and she got it all in against Andy Press who had built the biggest stack at the table with aggressive play. Unfortunately for Nora, Andy had flopped a set of 4s, sending Nora to the rail with 2 points. Amo busted next when his pocket 9s ran into Joe’s Kings. Ryan followed him to the rail, collecting 4th place points.
Bill lucked out when his QQ cracked Andy’s Aces and a few hands later another pair of Queens held up against Andy’s AK. When Andy knocked out Joe, it was heads up and Andy completed a super successful homecoming when his A 3 suited flopped two 3s against Bill’s pocket 5s.
