The Black Widow Strikes

36 players showed up to do battle at Event 14.

Even with the bulk of the season in the rear window, there are still dozens of players in the running for a 2018 WSOP package.

Nine spots earned points in Event 14.

Cathy Seferi finished 9th and earned 2 points, Rod Flora finished 8th and earned 3 points, Joe Wiebelhaus finished 7th and earned 5 points, Geoffrey Batuyong finished 6th and earned 9 points, Gilbert Amparo finished 5th and earned 12 points, Sandi Sarmiento finished 4th and earned 18 points, Ricky Flora finished 3rd and earned 30 points, Troy Soult finished 2nd and earned 44 points, and Christine LaMonaca earned the victory and earned 57 points.

The key hand at the final table involved a three-way all in.  Troy moved all in pre-flop.  Gilbert, with his tournament life on the line, thought for a bit and called.  Ricky was next to act and agonized over his decision before finally folding.  The action was then on Christine, who also had her tournament life on the line.  She also agonized over her decision, noting that only two hands had her beat.  She made the overcall with her QQ.  Troy had 99 and Gilbert had KK.  With 60 of the chips in play on the line, the flop came Q55 giving Christine a full house.  Troy would need running 99 for the win and Gilbert would need a K on the turn or river to retake the lead and win the hand.  Unfortunately for both, the turn and river were blanks.  At that point Christine had a massive chip lead and took it all the way to the finish line.
